UKHBPT FOUNDING PATRON

HRH The Prince of Wales

The United Kingdom Historic Building Preservation Trust (UKHBPT) was founded 20 years ago by HRH The Prince of Wales to address the problem of the UK’s historic buildings being left to decay. The charity was born from The Prince’s passion for UK heritage and his vision for enriching local communities through the adaptive reuse of important local buildings.

The Prince continues to actively support our work and he has visited all of Middleport Pottery's projects. In January 2016 he opened The Prince of Wales Studios and in 2017 he officially opened Clay College, the newly renovated Bath House and officially named the Steam Engine, 'Duchess'. We are enormously grateful to him for all his encouragement and enthusiasm for our work over the years.

‘Personally I am not prepared to sit back and see this legacy of historic buildings needlessly squandered; especially as with a little imagination, they can become real community assets to their local communities, offering job opportunities, and focus for local regeneration schemes.’
